BEETROOT: This root is drenched in a rich history of worship, medicine, and ingestion. First used in Egypt in the third dynasty, the history of the beetroot expands from there; growing in the hanging gardens of Babylon, offered to Apollo the sun God by the Greeks, binding wounds by Hippocrates and for the Romans as both an aphrodisiac and a tonic for stamina and athletic endurance. The deep blood colour of beetroot undoubtedly connects us not only to our root chakra and thus to our feeling of security in this world but to our ancestors and karma, thus in magic this root is useful for ancestral trauma and releasing generational wounds. This deep ruby is also indicative of the roots deeply nutritive and blood cleansing properties, today beetroot has taken a throne at the table of “superfoods”, it can be used as a dietary supplement to support the physical body with a bounty of nutrients, minerals and vitamins.
CINNAMON: Cinnamon bark is a truly magical element to work with, with a traditional position as a catalyst or “fire” in spells and magic. In traditional Chinese medicine cinnamon is understood to be incredibly yang (masculine), firey and stimulating, here it nourishes an essence called Jing which can be loosely translated as the life force that you inherited. The compilation of the taste of sweet and salt in cinnamon dictates that it is both nourishing and drying to the body, placing it in high esteem to TCM practitioners. Medicinally cinnamon bark is used as an anti-pathogen, it will kill bacterial, fungal, and viral infections: a strong dictator of what constitutes the real you and what does not. Spiritually this bark is the embodiment of fire, a warrior to the truth and an invitation to the spark and core of your constitution.
CAYENNE: With use dating back to the ancient Aztecs in their cacao ceremonies, Cayenne is steeped in history and tradition of ceremonial and medicinal usage. In contemporary medicine, cayenne is used most frequently for treating muscular or nerve pain as the capsaicin in cayenne blocks pain neurotransmitters. Essentially the magic of cayenne is in its Martian bolstering action, used in any form or situation were the fighting and aggressive power of Mars is needed whether that be mentally, physically, or spiritually.
